Yes. I lived this life for five years, until Fate kicked me in the balls and left me whimpering on the floor in NC. Before that, we ran a B&B in a quirky little town in the mountains of Montana. One paved street, about 400 residents (and as many dogs), divided equally into sweet young families who wanted to raise their kids immersed in Nature, and unemployed alcoholics hiding from their Missoula County misdemeanors. The mayor was a homeless man, a philosopher/handyman/political activist who ran the unsanctioned and illegal town dump. Our neighbors were elk and bighorn sheep, and fly fishing was sacred. And I am a salmon, swimming against the current, trying to get back home.
